Explore Texas: A Guide for Nature Lovers

Texas is one of those states that don’t get enough credit for how beautiful they are. And with our explore Texas: a guide for nature lovers, we hope to change that!

Caddo Lake State Park

For water lovers, it is impossible to explore Texas without visiting Caddo Lake State Park. Caddo Lake is the only natural lake in Texas, and its uniqueness really reflects this. The cypress trees that rise out of the water are an intriguing sight, and the wetlands will draw you in for hours as you lose yourself in their exploration. You can also easily rent canoes and kayaks here, to really get the best out of the experience!

Big Thicket National Preserve

If you really want to explore Texas and what makes it unique, then the Big Thicket National Preserve is an amazing choice. This preserve is formed of no less than nine unique ecosystems which all naturally converge on the location. This gives you a stunning breath of landscapes to appreciate, and you can really see a kaleidoscope of Texas’ beauty.

Hamilton Pool Nature Preserve

A very relaxing location, the Hamilton Pool Nature Preserve is one of the best ways to explore Texas and what the state has to offer. The pool was formed when the surface of an underground river collapsed, and it shows. It feels almost like you are descending into some hidden location where you can catch a glimpse of the wonders our world has to offer. Of course, the preserve is located very close to Austin, so it is a convenient location to visit, too!

Palo Duro Canyon State Park

As the second largest canyon in the United States, Palo Duro Canyon does not get nearly enough attention! The wonderful rocks and cave formations, and even the mesquite and juniper trees that dot the area, all come together to present a wonderful atmosphere for the park visitors. Of course, there is a benefit to being less known than the number one canyon: no crowds and the annoyances they bring. You can really appreciate the view here, and we warmly recommend taking the time to watch the sunset on location. The way the colors of the setting sun light up the state park is something you need to see in order to truly appreciate.

Guadalupe Mountains National Park

The Guadalupe Mountains National Park is a perfect place for anyone to visit, of course. However, it is particularly relevant for people who enjoy bird watching. The park teems with wildlife, and you can spot some amazingly beautiful and rare birds around here! The park also has to offer a lot of other activities, such as horseback riding and even stargazing. History buffs love the park as well, since you can see pioneer wagon trails that were used during westward expansion here!

Colorado Bend State Park

Colorado Bend State Park is one of the biggest stretches of nature in Texas. It offers a ton of scenic locations to appreciate, and there’s hiking trails for the visitors to travel is they enjoy a more physically intense challenge. Of course, while the various landscapes the park contains are all well worth a visit, it is the Gorman Falls that draw in the most people. You won’t need to worry about packing the best gadgets for your road trip here to keep you entertained once you are face to face with this natural wonder. There is something almost magical and enchanting to the location, and every visitor can agree with that!

Dallas Arboretum and Botanical Garden

If, however, you want to have a more relaxing time and explore Texas while sticking to the conviences of more urban areas, we have the perfect option for you: the Dallas Arboretum and Botanical Garden. This botanical garden is famous for its floral displays and, interestingly enough, amazing sculptures. This makes the garden a popular draw even for those who prefer art over nature. Fort Worth Botanic Garden

As another botanic garden on our list, the Fort Worth Botanic Garden has more than enough unique points to stand out from our previous entry! It is of considerable size, spanning one hundred and nine acres, so you will have a lot of things to explore! Including rose gardens, an orchid collection and a rainforest conservancy Japanese garden. If you want a more guided experience, you can also sign up for the Native Texas Boardwalk, which is almost like a class on the plants and natural wonders which the Garden contains.

Lost Maples State Park

The Lost Maples State Park is picturesque enough on its own. The beauty of the scenery and the calming views are more than enough of a draw. However, the park really shines when it comes to fall color viewings. The breathtaking beauty of the place takes on an entirely new cast, and is more than enough to charm even the most experienced appreciators of nature’s beauty. It also helps that the park is very close to San Antonio, so you can really get to know the city while also having access to the nature’s wonders of Texas located near it.

Caverns of Sonora

Eerie, yet utterly beautiful is the best descriptor for Caverns of Sonora. This nature’s wonder will get you to explore Texas much more thoroughly, and is more than enough reason to brave a flight to the state all on its own. Ironically, even though the Caverns of Sonora are lauded as one of the most beautiful examples of snow caves in the world, they do not attract many tourists at all. This means that you’ll have a much easier time appreciating them without the bustle of other tourists, though! So, if you like less popular nature spots, this might just be the choice for you.
